What inspired you to start your business?
The journey of my business began with a deeply personal experience. My son suffered from severe eczema, a condition that brought him significant discomfort. The reliance on steroid creams to manage his symptoms worried me due to their chemical composition and potential side effects. This concern led me to seek out natural alternatives, and it was during this search that I discovered the remarkable healing properties of coconut oil, a traditional remedy in the Pacific. The antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties of coconut oil played a crucial role in alleviating my son's skin issues.
Motivated by this positive experience and the growing preference for natural ingredients, I felt compelled to share the benefits of Pacific coconut oil with others. My passion for offering a 100% chemical-free solution to those struggling with similar skin issues became the driving force behind my business. I am dedicated to helping others find relief and comfort, knowing they are using a natural and safe product.
How long have you been running your business?
I have been running my business for the past seven years. We initially launched in New Zealand in 2018, where we received positive feedback from our customers. However, recognizing the limitations in our target market, we expanded into the US market, specifically California, in 2019. Although we successfully secured sales channels, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic required us to shift our marketing strategy and adapt to the new circumstances.
What do you love most about your business?
What I love most about my business is hearing the stories of how our products, especially Loloma, have positively impacted people's lives. From addressing issues like children's eczema, cradle cap, nappy rash, and itchy skin to offering beauty benefits and hair care, our customers have shared their experiences of relief and satisfaction. It is particularly heartening to hear how our products have helped individuals dealing with mastectomy scars and radiation treatment.
Another aspect I cherish is the team of women I work with. My passion for gender equality and ongoing self-development is reflected in our work environment. We are committed to supporting single mothers and ensuring their continuous personal and professional growth. This supportive and empowering atmosphere is a cornerstone of our company culture.
How do you see your business evolving in the future? What would you like to achieve in the next five years?
Looking ahead, I see Loloma expanding its product line, strengthening our presence in current markets, and exploring opportunities in untapped markets. We aim to foster continuous customer engagement, refine our business to be more sustainable in all aspects, and adapt to the ever-evolving market trends and needs.
Over the next five years, I aspire for Loloma to become a recognized industry leader known for innovation and quality in the natural skincare industry. My goals include expanding our product line, reaching a broader global audience, and establishing sustainable practices. Additionally, building strong customer loyalty and contributing positively to the baby skincare industry through education are key objectives for the future.
Outside of work, what are your interests or hobbies?
Outside of work, I enjoy baking, exploring nature through walks, and spending quality time laughing with family and friends. I am also passionate about sharing insights and experiences with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) embarking on their journey and contributing to children's development.
Through my business, I aim to share the healing benefits of natural products while empowering others. It's not just about skincare; it's about creating a positive impact and fostering a supportive community.
